AABPA Member Awards for Outstanding ServiceAt our annual meeting and reception, AABPA honors select members for their outstanding contributions to the organization over the prior year. As a volunteer practitioner organization, AABPA’s success depends on the generous contributions of time and effort of our members. We are especially grateful to the innovative ideas and had work of our volunteers! 2011 award winners
Tre Allison AABPA's digital transition would not have been possible without the help, guidance, and technical expertise of Tre. His ability to quickly understand and identify opportunities with the new AABPA website ensured that our transition was ready for the May 2011 launch. Not only did Tre contribute to our successful web transition but thanks to his innovative thinking, AABPA now has a presence and following on Twitter. Tre has been a member of AABPA since first attending as a student two years ago from West Virginia University and was a finalist in our Graduate Student Research Competition last year.
Amanda Parker In addition to recently graduating from American University, Amanda organized, coordinated, and facilitated the 2011 Marykathryn Kubat award competition. Amanda's attention to detail, enthusiasm, and ability to wear all hats as a planner showed why she continues to be an up and comer in AABPA. Her willingness to give back further illustrates why she was a deserving recipient of the Kubat award in 2010. 2010 award winners
Ed Brigham Ed spearheaded AABPA 35th Anniversary celebration this year. In August, he started an outreach campaign to locate many of the organizations founders and past board members. Ed also wrote an article on the creation of AABPA that was highlighted on both our website and the January edition of The Bottom Line. Thanks to his hard work, six of the founding members of AABPA attended and were honored at the symposium in May.
Lauren Bloom For the past two years, Lauren has coordinated AABPA’s outreach to graduate students studying budget and program analysis. She has introduced dozens of careers advisers and budget professors to our organization and created a network of contacts in academia. She expanded and streamlined our recruiting efforts for student volunteers who summarize the presentations at our symposia, edited the articles those students submitted for The Bottom Line, and connected AABPA professionals to future analysts through the lunch mentor activities and the MAX Federal Community pages. Working with Juliet, Lauren designed the layout and content for the academic pages that were added to the website this year.
Juliet Vargas Over the past year, Juliet has worked on a number of projects to improve AABPA programs and better meet the needs of our members. Thanks to Juliet’s innovative thinking, AABPA now has a presence on several social media platforms including LinkedIn, Facebook, and Govloop. Juliet has spent many hours organizing and analyzing the evaluations from symposia and student events and has used that feedback to improve our programs. As a result of her careful attention to the suggestions of our members, Juliet developed a committee structure to allow more members to be actively involved in planning AABPA activities and also expanded the summer intern program to a full-day of training. |
